Strange Days, Hero SQUID Device

original movie prop

This is the hero 'functioning' version of the SQUID device (Superconducting QUantum Interference Device). This is the recording device that could record your experiences on to little discs for playback at another time. This was hand made, painted and detailed specifically for the production. Some of the small detail pieces have been lost, but it still 'functions'. Turning it on will make the red LED flash, a green LED inside the disc area lights up, and the disc starts to spin. There's also a blue LED way inside of it, but it's hard to see. The 'face plate' of the device was made to be easily removed so it could be swapped out to make the different styles of SQUIDs in the movie (Lenny's had gold detailing on it, for example). In it's current state, it looks mostly like the one Tex uses (played by Todd Graff). Search YouTube for 'strange days squid' to see a video of it operating.
Here's three screen shots showing the different designs used on the face plate. The first is the one Tex uses to see himself running, the middle one is Lenny's (Ralph Fiennes), and the third shows it in it's 'portable' configuration. The three pieces attached to the sides of the device are modular and all come off to leave just the small square player (still functional). The other key part of the SQUID device is the 'head loom', which is a spider-looking thing that sits on your head to record or play back the experiences. If anyone happens to have one of those, and wants to part with it, please let me know!
