Pet Sematary, Fred Gwynne Cut Ankle Display

original make-up / prosthetics

A production casting of Jud Crandalls (Fred Gwynnes) sliced ankle as seen in the horror classic PET SEMATARY (Paramount Pictures, 1996) mounted on a custom display.

The foam latex casting was made as a backup for the production of the scene in which Gage Creed, an undead child, jumps out from under a bed and slices the Achilles tendon of Jud Crandall (Gwynne).  It was finished for the display, at which point the slipper and pant leg were added.

In Pet Sematary, based on an novel by Stephen King, Louis Creeds family is shattered when their youngest child and pet cat are killed by speeding trucks on a freeway adjacent to their house.  Jud tells Louis about a nearby ancient burial ground that is said to resurrect its dead and the well-meaning husband and father buries his loved ones there.  They return in horrificially changed, murderous forms.  Jud Crandalls death scene is considered to be one of the films most horrifying.
