Pacific Rim, Yancy Becket’s Gipsy Danger Jaeger Drivesuit Breastplate

original movie costume

Yancy Becket’s (Diego Klattenhoff) Gipsy Danger Jaeger Drivesuit Breastplate from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorizes earth, forcing mankind to build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. This unique piece was made as a prop to be used during the ready room sequence at the start of the film, when Yancy and his brother Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) are being dressed in their Drivesuits to fight a Kaiju.

Unlike the breastplates made to be worn as costume, this piece is detailed on the outside and inside to show the intricacies of the fictional interior mechanics. The piece is made largely from Urethane much like the armor on the costume pieces. The exterior is finished with an under layer of metallic silver and largely covered with a white finished. The finish is purposefully distressed in some areas where the silver undercoat is revealed. These scratches were used to screen match this piece to the one worn by Yancy in the scene. A small ball gauge and hose attachment is located under the left breast. Paint resembling rust runs from these sections to the edge of the piece.

The inside portion is also finished with sculpting detail and wire pieces to appear high tech and futuristic. Hidden magnets along the side aided in temporarily securing the piece to the other armor sections during the scene. This screen matched piece remains in great, production used condition. This piece measures 16” x 11” x 8” (41 cm x 28 cm x 20 cm). .
