Xena: Warrior Princess, Xena’s whip

This is Xena’s screen-used whip, constructed of a heavy resin handle inlaid with paua shell blanks and braided strands of closed-cell foam to simulate braided leather. Leather whips were often seen hanging from Xena’s hip, but foam versions were used in some instances for the safety of the actors. Standard versions of Xena’s whip used on the series were about 6 feet long, but this stunt whip is over 20 feet in length, most likely a one-off piece used for a very specific scene that required the extra length. I believe this particular whip was used in the season 4 episode “Devi” when it is wrapped many times around the waist of the possessed street performer, Maya, which would have required a prop of this length.
