Ghostbusters 2, Washington Square Ghost Stop-Motion Puppet

original movie prop

The discovery of a massive river of ectoplasm and a resurgence of spectral activity allows the staff of Ghostbusters to revive the business. This is the Washington Square ghost stop-motion puppet from Ivan Reitman’s creepy comedy sequel Ghostbusters 2. Several ghastly happenings appeared in a montage in the film including a large ghost terrorizing patrons at Washington Square. Phil Tippett was asked to do the puppet late in the film’s production. Due to time constraints, he built the puppet using a pre-existing armature and completed the shot in a single take. He asked not to be credited in the film since he only did a single shot. The puppet’s body is made of foam latex and is detailed with sharp resin teeth, red urethane eyes and eerie purple and green paint.
