Very briefly seen and only in profile, this tricorder is carried by McCoy as he and Kirk arrive aboard the Klingon battle cruiser Kronos One, intent on trying to save the dying Chancellor Gorkon, shot by an assassin in Starfleet uniform during an unprovoked attack.
Custom engineered hero replica, created by extensive modification of a static resin kit, with metal and acrylic details, and the addition of newly designed electronics. Operates with a precise piston spring loaded popup tricorder head, which on deployment activates light effects including: a bank of 30 green, yellow, and red indicators on the left, with two alternate looping animations and an 'all-on' mode, toggled by a concealed switch; four vertically stacked always-on rectangular yellow indicators on the right; and two checkerboard banks of rapidly oscillating red/orange indicators on the top back of the base. This replica is based on the 'full hero' version as built for production, slightly different from the simpler prop actually used in the scene, although this distinction is not visible onscreen.
