Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, Superman Clark Kent radioactive scratches Stuart Freeborn

original make-up / prosthetics

A pair of production made 'radioactive' claw scratch appliances made for the 1987 Christopher Reeve superhero movie Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. These were made for (but never required) the sequence that saw the Man of Steel come up against his most deadly adversary so far, Lex Luthor's 'Nuclear man'. He receives three near fatal scratches to his neck from Nuclear Man's radioactive claws whilst distracted with saving the Statue of Liberty. Each appliance is made from a thin layer of latex with three parallel deep red lines running the length to simulate the scratches. As well as the blood-red lines it has been expertly decorated with flesh-coloured paint to match Reeves' skin tone and would have been touched up even further when placed on his skin. One lighter skin tone for when Superman first receives the scratches from Nuclear Man One darker skin tone for when Superman deteriorates from the radiation poisoning. (Cut scene)
