Army of Darkness, Stop Motion Deadite Skeleton Puppet

original movie prop

A sardonic hardware store clerk is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., where he must retrieve the Necronomicon and battle an army of the dead so he can return home. From the 1992 film Army of Darkness, this is a Deadite Skeleton puppet used in the film. This stop motion miniature Deadite skeleton was custom made by the production for use during filming of the miniature effects shots of the Deadites in the graveyard and attacking the castle. This is a hero large foreground miniature that features an articulated head and joints with the hands set in place to hold a sword or shovel. A very rare artifact from this classic film and the lost art of stop motion animation. This skeleton’s body is made of resin with a metal armature and multiple “ball in socket” flexible joints so that it may be placed in various positions during filming. The animators would have to adjust each position one frame at a time to bring it to life on screen and along with the puppet, the gravestones in the display were also used in the film.
