Logan's Run, Sandman Deep Sleep Gun *Functional*

The Deep Sleep pistols, used by Sandmen to pursue and terminate Runners in Logan's Run, were in fact functional handheld flamethrowers. Calcium carbide was mixed with water in the reaction chamber, creating acetylene gas under pressure, which would be released in a jet from a nozzle, controlled by a valve connected to the trigger. The gas would then strike the end of the cage, where a glow plug would ignite it. Great propmaking ingenuity, although there were reportedly problems including leaking seals and accidental burns. The pronounced greenish tint seen in the movie was creating by adding a corrosive welding chemical to the reaction mix.

This metal replica (with resin grips, simulating the original bondo ones) functions as the original prop, with modern safety and performance updates to the valve and other components. As with the original, the glow plug is powered by a battery in the grip and activated by flipping the front toggle forward, which acts as a safety (of sorts). Creates an amazingly dramatic flame burst.
