The Last Samurai, Samurai Wakizashi

This is one of the short swords worn by one of the extras in the hit film The Last Samurai. The aluminum blades were made by my personal friend Tony Swatton at The Sword and the Stone in Burbank. Then the blades were sent out to W.E.T.A. in New Zealand to have the handles casted and multiplied. The scabbard once had a foam material to hold the blade in. During filming, the foam wore out so the actors had to result to high-end gaffer's tape to make an alternate fitting. Hardly anyone would ever be able to see this on screen.
