Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Red Rangerís Hero Helmet
original movie prop
This is one of the very few screen used helmets that survived from the 1995 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie and is one of the hero screen used versions used by Steve Cardenas. This particular helmet came from one of the stuntmen who was gifted it after production and also retained the mouth piece that was removed for additional shoots, which is pretty impressive especially after 25 years considering how I lose stuff daily. He said this particular helmet is one of the hero Red helmets (also written inside) that was filmed while whole/complete, also with the mouth removed, as well as with both the mouth and visor removed and that this is one of the helmets the actors wore while performing their action sequences. The other hero helmets were mainly used for beauty shots inside zords, etc. The stuntman then recalled that the stunt helmets were pretty beat up and believed they got scrapped at the end of the shoot and only the heroes remained, which explains why he was given a hero helmet. While researching this helmet, it’s quite interesting to learn how many times these helmets were reworked again and again and reused for the various combinations that they tried.
While gathering info from Rob Burman, he mentioned that the helmets were reworked in Australia by the Production team and also told me a very cool feature about these helmets on how they were made... the mouths and visors were made removable from the start in all of the helmets because the Production was thinking they might be able to show their eyes and mouths while the actors were performing dialogue scenes. Awesome and very helpful guy!
