At the finale of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Kit West, Oscar-award winning effects supervisor, designed a scene in which spirits escape the Lost Ark of the Covenant, swirl around the Nazi soldiers, suddenly turning evil and melting their faces.
