The Photoplay Gold Medal awarded to WITH A SONG IN MY HEART as the Most Popular Film Of The Year. The film was written and produced by Lamar Trotti, who passed away suddenly 6 months prior to the ceremony. Susan Hayward also won the gold medal for her performance and Marilyn Monroe was given a plaque for Fastest Rising Star meaning a big night for 20th Century Fox. Trotti was one the three princes of writing (along with  Nunnally Johnson and Philip Dunne) on the FOX lot, specializing in American historical dramas and musicals winning the Academy Award for WILSON (1944). He also wrote THE OX BOW INCIDENT, YOUNG MR. LINCOLN, IN OLD CHICAGO, DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK, and BRIGHAM YOUNG.
