Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Original Hero Bat'Leth

original movie prop weapon

This is a screen-used Hero Bat'leth from Deep Space Nine. This item has been inspected by the original prop maker and he confirms that he made this prop (and hand-wrapped the leather) for Deep Space Nine as one of only 5 hero Bat'leths made for the show. He also confirmed that two were damaged during one episode and made unusable for further shooting. He could not recall exactly which episode this was first made for, but knows if was either Season 2 for 'Blood Oath' or Season 5 for 'Looking For Par'Mach In All The Wrong Places'. After the prop's last use on screen it was cleaned of the Paramount added non-reflective spray material and professionally polished. At some subsequent point this Batleth was autographed by J. G. Hertzler/'Martok' (for some reason) - the autograph is on the reverse side and the obverse side image is posted here.

UPDATE: This prop has now been prominently featured on The Big Bang Theory, episode #4.19 ('The Zarnecki Incursion) which aired on 3/31/11. The entire cast autographed the bat'leth backstage while the audience was still present.  It was wieled by the character Sheldon (Jim Parsons).

FURTHER UPDATE: This prop appeard with me in an episode of Hollywood Treasures.
