Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Movie Police Pin

I was told that this was made as a promotional item for Gremlins 2, but someone else suggested that they were made as gifts for the cast and crew (or the children of the cast and crew). A pin like this can clearly be seen in Gremlins 2 during the Movie Police scene, before Leonard Maltin gets attacked by the Gremlins. I have it displayed with my two Gremlins promo pins (from the first and second movies) in a three part shadow box, and have included pictures of all three with the custom borders that I made for them. If anyone knows the exact history of this item, I'd love to hear it!
