Lina\'s (Saoirse Ronan) answering machine device from City of Ember. The Machine gets a decent amount of screen time and is a pivotal piece in the movie. Originally Lina uses the device to play old answering machine tapes which helps her sister go to sleep. In a later scene Doon (Harry Treadaway) hears the tape playing and recognises his dad\'s voice talking about escaping Ember.
In the movie the device is powered by pedals however it actually has a power cord and can be plugged in which still works and the bulb lights up.
