Xena: Warrior Princess, Koru motif dagger

original movie prop weapon

A screen-used dagger made of either dense foam or hard rubber over a metal rod. The design incorporates what seems to be koru, a spiral symbol found in Māori art, in what I’d guess is a clever nod to New Zealand itself. A dagger of this style can be seen in two episodes X:WP’s first season. In “Prometheus,” it is used by a bounty hunter who throws it at Xena and instead hits his bounty hunter partner in the throat, leading to Xena’s performance of the first emergency tracheotomy of the series. The second appearance is in “Warrior…Princess,” used by an assassin sent to kill King Lias’ daughter and the series’ first Xena doppelgänger, Princess Diana.
