Director Bill Shatner's original concept for the movie was to have several rock creatures emerge from the false God alter after Kirk orders the Enterprise to destroy it. This image offers a rare glimpse into what Bill Shatner originally conceived and shows Kirk coming out of the fiery crater after the altar's destruction being pursued by a rock creature. Budget overruns caused the entire scene to be cut from the final movie but the rock creature lore lives on in the fan base.
The image comes with a Paramount Catalog Number in pencil on the reverse.
