Les Miserables, Javert (Russell Crowe) Oppening Scenes Unifrom

original movie costume

Javert wore his custom-made costume in the opening scene of the film as he oversaw the prisoners in the dockyard. The costume consists of a long blue coat, woollen trousers, a blue hat and a black leather belt. The double breasted coat and hat are made of the same blue wool with light blue piping, with a matching tassel on the hat. The coat displays brass buttons down the front, on the cuffs and at the back, at the top of a vent in the back with three small Velcro-sealed pockets located inside. The cobalt blue trousers feature a pair of white elasticated braces with a zip fastening along the back. The lower-legs of the trousers are made of navy blue elastane material, with white elasticated stirrups. Both the coat and hat have an Academy Costumes label, with an additional wardrobe tag with the handwritten text ‘Double’ pinned to the left sleeve of the coat.

The coat displays signs of wear including marks on and along the hem of the coat from intentional distressing, the belt buckle also features some wear to the finish and the stirrups of the trousers feature minor marks. However, in spite of this wear, the costume remains in very good condition.
