The Brothers Grimm, Jakob Grimm's (Heath Ledger) Book Of German Folklore

original movie prop

The ‘Compendium of German Folklore and Heritage’ used in the supernatural fantasy film The Brothers Grimm. Pretending to be experts in the occult, Wilhelm and Jakob Grimm (Matt Damon and Heath Ledger) trick a town into believing they had rid them of a terrible witch’s ghost. Called upon by a French General, the brothers are sent to a remote town where young women keep disappearing, and where they learn that all tales aren’t always a figment of the imagination. This book of fairy tales can be seen throughout the film as Jacob Grimm (Heath Ledger) keeps a log of all the strange stories told to him and his brother on their travels. The book has cream marbled pages, some of which feature the tales printed to look like handwriting along with drawings and sketches. Tales featured within the book's text and illustrations include The Seven Ravens, Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Aschenputtel (Cinderella) and Little Red Riding Hood. The pages are held in place by a piece of string wrapped through the leather cover. The cover of the book has a leather border with green material in the middle, in the center of which is a square of leather which has the initial ‘G’ embossed on a coat of arms.
