In ‘Hell Money’ Mulder and Scully must investigate a deadly lottery being run by the Triads in San Francisco’s Chinatown.
In the episode, Mulder and Scully found burnt hell money at the scene of a murder in which a man - Johnny Lo (Derek Lowe) - was burned alive in a disused crematorium oven.
Made for the production, this note and others like it were designed to resemble hell money, large denominations of symbolic counterfeit currency printed on joss paper which are burned as a spiritual offering to ease their ancestors’ financial burdens.
