Heavy Metal, Harry Canyon & Girl Maquette Heads Original

original movie prop

These were the 1/4 scale maquette heads produced for the film Heavy Metal. From the Making of Heavy Metal: ""An interesting aspect to the animation done at Atkinson's is the use of miniature sculptures of the heads of characters used in the various films. These heads are perfect three-dimensional representations of the animated characters. With these heads, the animators can set up specific lighting situations and see exactly how their character would look under certain conditions. For Heavy Metal, a number of the crew members from Gremlin's were crafted. Although the story changed, radically eliminating most of the characters the process was a good exercise. Harry Canyon and "the Girl" were also sculpted. These busts were used to a large extent to give the faces if the characters a realistic lighting style in the finished animation."" These busts are sculpted from water clay and very delicate and the only two known busts to exist from the film authenticated by executive producer and art director Michael Gross.
