In third season episode Deep Midnight's Voice, the crew of the Andromeda need to blend in with the population of an industrial age planet, hoping to avoid a first contact situation while simultaneously searching for a crashed ancient Neitzschean probe bearing a complete map of the Slipstream. Harper solves one concern by inventing this nifty little device, programmed to automatically translate to and from the alien language, and worn inconspicuously behind the ear by Dylan, Beka, Tyr and second Nietzschean Gaiton (played by Chris Heyerdahl) as they go ashore incognito.
