I obtained this cut-down ash stave from the same place where the costumes for the principal cast were stored for many years after the series finished.
It stands at just under 5ft, so has had at least 1.5ft taken off of it. This might be because it broke, perhaps on set, or happened post series where a number of costumes were being hired out for theatre and television, with the occasional fancy dress hire.
It came with a polystyrene skull ontop of the shaft. This puts to mind Gulnar of the Dark Path (Richard O\\\'Brien) who became a regular guest villain in the last year of filming in 1985. However, the skulls on camera all look to be resin, not polystyrene. The head was perhaps placed on top later as again a hire accessory, perhaps influenced by the Cromm Cruac episode. The original way have broken. Gulnar skull pole was considerably shorter than the staffs they normally used, so it\\\'s possible that the stave could be original, but certainly I would surmise it had been used in previous seasons.
Entirely speculation of course, but given the provenance of it being from the HTV costume store with the costumes, airing on probability, it\\\'s fair to say this item would have been production used at some stage and is probably the only one now where we could say definitively came from RoS.
