Alice In Wonderland, Gryphon Stop Motion Puppet

original movie prop

Stop motion puppet created by and for Lou Bunin for his remarkable live action/puppet faithful recreation of the classic story done in 1949 in France and released in the States in 1951 in direct competition to DISNEY's animated feature. This led to Disney seeking court relief to block the Bunin film based on copyright and 'public confusion' issues -all to no avail. Both films did poorly at the box office and quickly disappeared. Bunin was a pioneer in stop motion work having developed his own method of wire armatures and differnt kinds of skins for the puppets. He first gained attention with his WWII propganda Paramount short BURY THE AXIS and at MGM with the prologue to ZIEGFIELD FOLLIES. We have seven of the ALICE puppets and three from other projects.
