Serenity, Gambling Token Chip

A wooden gambling token from Joss Whedon’s 2005 science fiction action comedy Serenity.

The crew of the Serenity - lead by Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) - must evade capture from an assassin sent after one of the crew, the young telepath River Tam (Summer Glau).

The crew of Serenity stop off at a planet called Beaumonde, where they intend to drop off River and her brother (Sam Maher). In a bar called The Maidenhead, River’s psychosis is triggered by an advert for Fruity Oaty Bars and she beats up everyone in the vicinity. Visible on the tables in this scene are bar tokens and chips, including this slim wooden token and others like it, all used as currency on this planet.

This token is made of wood and has Chinese letters hand-drawn on it in red paint. Despite its production use (and proximity to a bar fight) this item remains in very good condition.
