Xena: Warrior Princess, Gabrielle’s sidekick costume

This is Gabrielle’s screen-worn “sidekick” costume from the latter half of season 1. A version of this costume first appears in episode 9, “Death in Chains”, a glaring continuity error as Gabrielle shouldn’t actually have an outfit change in-story until she meets the Amazons in episode 10, “Hooves and Harlots.” After being trained by the Amazons to use a quarterstaff, Gabrielle becomes a fighter, no longer relegated to hiding in bushes while Xena dispatches warlords and their toadies. This costume change marks Gabrielle’s transition within the storyline from Xena’s groupie to a full-fledged sidekick. She wears this costume for the remainder of season 1. As with the Gabrielle villager costume I recently shared, this costume was originally sold during the It’s A Wrap! warehouse sale in 2002. Pinned to the inside are Renée O’Connor’s wardrobe tags.
