In third season episode Requiem For Methuselah, the Enterprise crew encounter Mr. Flint, a mysterious human living in seclusion on a remote planet. When they discover that he is actually nearly 6000 years old, and was Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Brahms, and many other important figures from Earth's history, Flint decides that they cannot be allowed to reveal his secret, and uses this device to capture the Enterprise from orbit, shrinking it to tabletop size and placing the crew in stasis.
