The Crystal of Knowledge also known as the Fortress of Solitude crystal is the combined result of the merging of the 3 stones of power: Air, Water and Fire. The Crystal can been seen at the end of season 4 when the 3 stones merged together on there altar.
In season 5, Clark throws the crystal in to the arctic snow to form the Fortress. In season 7 Lex used An "Orb" to destroy the fortress which causes the structure to reverted to its previous form. The crystal can also be seen in season 8 as well. The crystal was also capable of transporting someone to the Phantom zone as seen in "Bloodline"
