Depending on what you hear at any given time, the story behind this piece varies slightly. Basically this piece was fan produced, only to be seen by HMS and then offered to the studios for use in the First Contact movie. They in turn, turned it down as being too small for the big screen despite the cool design. I think it was a perfect direction for a cricket that followed the new phaser style introduced in the FC movie.
