made from scratch movie costume
I've always been interested in history, particularly the medieval periods and World War-II . I made this hauberk (chain mail shirt / coat) entirely from scratch (i.e. I turned and cut my own individual links, and assembled the hauberk link by link, by hand). The finished coat has over 30,000 links and weighs about 32-pounds. The 14-gauge steel wire and period-accurate sized links make this a fully functional, battle-worthy reproduction of chain mail as worn in the 12th Century. I also hand-made the leather & mild steel vambraces (arm guards) seen in the photo as well as the coif (hood, which weighs about 8-pounds).
