Columbo, Bronze bust

original set dressing / pieces

An Austrian bust, made of bronze, seen in the episode ANY OLD PORT IN A STORM (1973), Falk's professed favorite episode of COLUMBO. The murder takes place at the Carsini Winery, which Columbo is quite pleased to visit several times and sample their fare. The bust is represented to be the founder, Mr. Carsini, hence, it is in the main office. But, what is interesting, is that it is used in a scene dissolve where the camera is sweeping in on an aerial of the winery, with the head slowly appearing, and then, after the head alone remains, (first screen grab) pans right to reveal the winery floor with a tour group Columbo has joined to see the facility. It, of course, has no business being in the large warehouse, since we know it is in the office, but it does spotlight the piece quite well. Cast in the lost wax process, the piece is unique and can be compared with the ridges and faults in the face and forehead. Purchased directly from UNIVERSAL STUDIOS. It can be seen in the video at 35:31. It also appears in the COLUMBO episode BYE BYE SKY HIGH IQ MURDER CASE (1977), shown in the fourth image in the Sigma office where the murder took place, and the following year in the episode THE CONSPIRATORS in the O'Connell mansion.
