In the Hellboy comic book story The Third Wish, first published in 2002, three mermaid sisters are tricked into driving a magic nail into Hellboy's forehead, trapping him in the dangerous world of the Bog Roosh, a powerful underwater witch who plans to kill Hellboy, scatter the fragments of his body,  and destroy his Right Hand of Doom.
