Iíll Fly Away TV, Binoculars Set Dressing
original set dressing / pieces
When production wrapped on this extraordinary TV series all props went up for sale with crew getting first purchases. Although I did buy several set pieces this was the only one to make it with me through all these years of my journeys.
This particular piece was part of the set dressing used for the eldest son Nathan Bedford's bedroom. Not sure if it could even be seen in the series as it has never been released on any video format to compare.
I'll Fly Away is an American television drama series that aired on NBC from October 7, 1991, to February 5, 1993. Set during the late 1950s and early 1960s, in an unspecified Southern U.S. state, it starred Regina Taylor as Lilly Harper, a Black housekeeper for the family of district attorney Forrest Bedford, played by Sam Waterston. (The character's name is a peculiar twist on the name of Confederate Army General Nathan Bedford Forrest, an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan.) As the show progressed, Lilly became increasingly involved in the Civil Rights Movement, which eventually pulled in her employer, as well.
