Arachnophobia, Big Bob Tarantula Puppet

original movie prop

A Big Bob Tarantula Puppet from Frank Marshall's 1990 horror film, Arachnophobia. In the film, an unidentified species of spider makes its way from the Amazon to a small town in California, where it breeds a new strain of deadly spiders. This puppet was used as a stand-in for Big Bob, the male Amazon spider who breeds a colony in the home of Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels). This spider puppet is made by Chris Walas Industries from foam latex over a metal frame and painted purple and brown with hand punched fur. The legs were originally fully adjustable allowing for a number of poses but can’t any longer due to their age. Along with the custom theming of the display there is also a background stunt spider made to look like New Zealand Delena species that was used in the film.
