Shindig 1964, Beau Brummels Drummer Costume

original movie costume

The first post British Invasion group to come out the SF Bay area were The BEAU BRUMMELS in late 1964. Their first hit LAUGH, LAUGH (penned by member Ron Elliot) climbed the charts putting them on AMERICAN BANDSTAND in early Feb. 1965. SHINDIG, already a teen staple on Wednesday nights, featured them in March. The boys had a San Mateo tailor make them these mod suits which emulated the Beatles' look. They also wore them on HULLABALOO and Lloyd Thaxton's HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO. They became so hot they 'guest' starred on an episode of THE FLINTSTONES as 'The Beau Brummelstones' and were featured in two motion pictures; VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS and WILD WILD WINTER. Their second single, JUST A LITTLE, proved to be a bigger hit. This was John Petersen's, the drummer, suit who left the group and formed HARPERS BIZZARE, scoring a top ten hit with FEELING GROOVY. He later reunited with the Brummels, off and on, until his sudden death in 2007. youtube: https://youtu.be/eAeVOoTXt8o
