Gladiator, Battle Of Carthage Spear

original movie prop weapon

A spear from Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning epic Gladiator. Betrayed by his Emperor’s son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and sold into slavery, Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) finds his calling in the arena as a gladiator. But when a festival of games begins in Commodus’ honour, Maximus returns to Rome with thoughts of revenge for his lost Emperor and family. This spear and others like it were used by the charioteers in Maximus’ first fight in the Colosseum arena, the re-enactment of the Battle of Carthage. Surrounded by chariots, Maximus rallied the gladiators and took command, turning the tide against the mobile enemies to snatch victory and survival from the jaws of defeat. The spear is made of cast rubber with a metal reinforcement within to add strength and rigidity in use. The piece features leather tassel detailing at the base. The long spear tip, which makes up half the length of the weapon, is finished in black, with wood effect finishing on the ribbed grip.
