Robin Hood, Barnsdale Gathering Banner

original movie prop

A purple and gold banner used in the Ridley Scott medieval action film Robin Hood. Betrayed by his king and imprisoned during the Crusades, Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) and his band of prisoners flee, assuming the identity of a fallen royal escort returning the crown of England after Richard's death " not realising that they will be dragged into a plot by the French to take the crown for themselves.

This banner and others like it were flown during the Barnsdale gathering as the lords of the north met to state their intentions toward the tyrannical King John (Oscar Isaac). The purple and gold banner is made of synthetic material with a rampant black beast stitched on top of the diagonal patterning. The beast is stitched closest to the pole loops so that it would be facing its enemies when the banner was carried into battle.

The banner measures 95cm x 91cm (37.5" x 36") when unfolded and remains in very good condition from its use on the production.
