This Set-Accurate recreated JL fiberglass P1 echos the color scheme and details of the fabled “Asherman” P1. The original fiberglass Asherman-P1 was the only hand prop I’m aware of that Gene Roddenberry kept from the Desilu Set. He gifted this prop to author Allan Asherman (“The Star Trek Compendium” book c.1981).
After three or four subsequent owners the real Asherman set-used prop was auctioned in 2011 for $65K to an anonymous collector. The provenance was a letter from Mr. Asherman saying, in summary, “Yeah, that was mine...”, hence the Asherman salutation.
The recreation was crafted from a JL fiberglass P1 shell , acrylic half moon, vintage diamond crisp and, with a correctly sized 5/16” diameter brass rod emitter just like the Asherman original, this finished P1 is completely unique and beautifully crafted.
