Stargate Universe, SGU, Ancient Kino

Flying camera ball.  I'm calling it a Kino.

Discovered by Eli Wallace aboard the Destiny, a Kino is a self-levitating softball-size orb packed with an array of sensors and scanners, capable of analyzing and recording planetary conditions and other data, either autonomously or by remote guidance.  Similar in concept to a MALP, but infinitely more sophisticated.

In first season episode Water, Eli attaches a bunch of kinos to the underside of a table to create a hovering platform, using it to carry large quantities of water in the form of ice back from an inhospitable frozen planet (nicknamed 'Hoth').  The oversized prop hoverboard made for this episode, bearing multiple hemispheric kinos haphazardly attached to the underside, was scavenged post-production to create this prop kino, by removing two kino halves from the table and attaching them to each other.  Of note: Closeup screencaps of the kinos used in first season episodes Divided and Lost clearly show an equatorial seam on these as well, suggesting that they were made in the same way.

Highly detailed multilayer painted resin core encased in a transparent etched acrylic outer shell.
