Saw II, Amanda's Special F/X Needle Pit Arm

As Jigsaw locks a few unlucky people in a booby trapped shelter, they must find a way out before they inhale too much of a lethal nerve gas. They must be prepared for the traps Jigsaw has set in the shelter that could ultimately lead them to a deathly demise. This is Amanda’s (Shawnee Smith) special effects prosthetic arm used during the needle pit scenes in the film SAW 2. This arm has a metal rod down the center to assist in making the arm move along with the needles and arm band seen on screen. The display was custom made of wood and themed to portray the scene with the needles used  from the needle pit with some being hero with metal tips, stunt with fiber optic tips and all of them containing special effects blood while some were autographed by Shawnee. In the film, Jonas leads them to a room upstairs that Xavier and Addison break into which houses an antidote behind a steel door and a needle-filled pit containing the key. The test being meant for Xavier, he throws Amanda into the pit instead. This arm can be seen right after Amanda is pulled from the needle pit when Daniel Matthews is pulling the needles from her arm. During the scene the production used a fake prosthetic arm with needles stuck in it for the special effects to seem realistic on camera. The production team also describes this in one of their comments: “In one trap; "The Needle Room", Smith's character Amanda is thrown into a pit of needles to find a key. In order for this to be done safely, four people, over a period of four days, removed the needle tips from syringes and replaced them with fiber optic tips. They modified a total of 120,000 fake needles. However, this number was insufficient and the pit had to be filled with Styrofoam and other materials to make it appear to have more needles. The needles that were apparently stuck into Smith were actually blunted syringes stuck into padding under her clothing. For certain shots, a fake arm was used.”
