In second season episode Merge With Caution, Artie temporarily blinds a man holding Claudia at gunpoint by shining a penlight through this artifact from his black bag, a glass shard taken from the lens of the ancient Lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt.

The Lighthouse, built circa 280 B.C., was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and at over 400 ft (122 m) in height, remained one of the tallest man-made structures on Earth for many centuries after its completion.  However, the actual Lighthouse was not known to contain any kind of lens; the beacon consisted of a large fire visible in all directions, and a curved mirror of polished bronze to focus the firelight into a beam as needed.
