I built this Assault Phaser from a Roddenberry kit, which produces a full-scale screen-accurately detailed

replica of the movie prop.  I improvised my own electronics, which proved a bit harder than I expected

due to the internal archetecture of the kit.  My electronics are a bit simpler than Rodd.com's built version -

my power pack doesn't light up on top and I don't have the 'power up' whine when the unit is turned on.

I do have a nice sound-effect.  Originally I fitted this replica with a bright blue laser. Unfortunately the

laser burnt out or shorted out (I'm not sure which) so I replaced it with a bright blue LED.  Of course,

the green indicator light on the back of the body lights up when the phaser is fired.
