Doctor Who, 8th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver (Custom Design) and 7th Doctor's Tardis Key
replica movie prop
Here is another concept 8th Doctor's sonic screwdriver for you, this time designed by Deviant Art user Teletran on his concept. I paired it here with the 7th Doctor's Tardis Key because the aesthetic of these two just works so well together.
This sonic was machined by Simply Prop and the internal mechanisms mainly designed by the RPF's Great Wazoo and Simply Prop with some redesigns here and there by me including the brass neck trim and a small shelf to accommodate the ruby red emitter crystal per Teletran's original drawings. Some features include the three stage telescoping design which is implemented by turning the end cap on the base which has a bearing in it with a threaded rod which collapses the sonic down to a nice compact design. Another feature is the black durlin grip and when fully extended, the thumb ring can be compressed similar to the classic sonic.
The Tardis key is another Mooncrest Models key based on new pictures that had surfaced in 2011 from the Bonhams auction of one of the original prop keys. Thanks to these pictures a new more accurate casting was made with the correct back side details. I kept the brass jump ring it came with but found a very nice 1mm silver curb chain to put it on. Much like the 3rd and 4th Doctor's keys I have from Mooncrest I removed the clasp and just opened one link to connect to the link on the other end for a nice clean chain.
Here's a link to the designers original drawing: http://teletran.deviantart.com/art/sonic-screwdriver-diagram-184093403?q=gallery%3Ateletran%2F1011152&qo=9
Included in the pictures is the same diagram but if you have a DA account go fave the picture and check out his other work.
