Doctor Who, 8th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver (Custom Design)
replica movie prop
This is a Sonic Screwdriver that I designed for myself and eventually made a small run of for the RPF. Originally I based the design on the idea of the classic sonic screwdriver but designed with the modern 2005 series sensibilities. As I went on however it became more clear to me that this design would make a great precursor to the 2005 sonic screwdriver and thus I made it a sort of 8th Doctor sonic screwdriver.
Included features from the modern sonic are the smaller over all size, the emitter crystal, the tapering grip that ends in a jack that is designed to plug into the Tardis console and right above it, anodized in blue is a settings dial. Of course much of the designs over all look is very classic what with the 90 degree facing emitter set into a three post halo and of course a slide based activation switch operated by the user's thumb.

Machining was done for me by SimplyProp, former RPF member. You can find his work on YouTube. Final assembly was done by myself personally.
Included in the first picture is my modified ID holder for the psychic paper. Originally it had two windows in it but it was reduced to just the one. The paper itself sports a hand drawn representation of the 7th Doctor's calling card as seen in "Remembrance of the Daleks"
Lastly is the Tardis Key which originally was made by an unknown person sometime in the 1980's around the time of the Peter Davison era. When I got it it was cast with a sort of sandy texture all over it and strung on a nice chain...but I wanted it to look more appropriate so I smoothed out the patterns on the front and then cleaned and filed the edges of the key for better symmetry. I then made the wide chain loop and strung it on a 3mm stainless steel snake chain. This key is my default key for my custom sonic screwdriver.
