Star Trek: The Next Generation, 'Yesterday's Enterprise' Phaser - Re-dressed

original movie prop weapon

This item began it's screen-used life in the style of a vacu-formed TWOK-era phaser and was made by Ed Miarecki and used on screen in 'Yesterday's Enterprise' as a sidearm for the crew of the Enterprise-C. Since most of the scenes on the 'C' were shot with re-dressed sets and re-purposed costumes there is not much from that ship (other than the filming model) that was made and used specifically for that episode. The phasers are a primary exception. Some of the phasers survive unchanged. A small amount of these phasers were sent to a prop house to be re-dressed for a later TNG episode - 'The Final Mission'. One was even made into a hero that would light up when the trigger was pulled. The phasers were re-painted and foam grips and triggers were added. The production, of course, changed their minds and went with the ST: III version rather than this ST: II version. There has been some chat about this type of phaser, in its re-dressed state, popping up in a later ST episode (unspecified series) but I have never found an appearance. Both a hero and a static example of the redressed phasers were sold at two separate auctions in the summer of 2010. This is the static one that sold at the Propworx live auction. This phaser was obviously damaged and hastily repaired at some point. It came from the Doug Drexler collection.

Great history of the piece. I thought these were re-purposed movie phasers, not copies remade by EM. Good to know. [by neoworx ]
