Dune, "Tequila Dune" Wrap Party Giveaway
original film-crew items
This bottle of tequila was given to cast and crew members at the wrap party for David Lynch's Dune, which was filmed in Mexico. I'm assuming it was full at the time -- it's empty now!
The gift is just a bottle of Sauza Conmemorativo tequila with a custom label glued to the front. The back has some silk-screened graphics (from the tequila company). I've no reason not to believe this is legit, but the thing is so rare I haven't been able to find anyone who can confirm it. I've only seen one photograph online and it looks like mine (though mine has some scratches and holes in the label). A friend of mine from Mexico has friends who collect tequila bottles and they confirmed that it's definitely a bottle that would have existed back in the early Eighties, for whatever that's worth. I collect a lot of paper products and the label looks just like something produced using offset printing 30 years ago. Again, for whatever that's worth.
A collector friend of mine had a good point: "Brian," he said, "who in their right mind would even bother to fake something like this? Are there even enough collectors who'd care enough to buy one?" Yeah, he's a philistine for mocking such a great movie, but I get what he's saying... Not that I'd call it a valid method of authentication. But still...
Anyway, I honestly never even knew this existed until I stumbled on it, and I'd love to hear from anyone who might have any more information. I'm a huge fan of Dune and I love tequila, so this is a favorite of mine. I just wish I knew more about the thing!
