This is the final prop replica to come out of Steve Dymszo's SD Studios as he's moving on to pastures new and as the song goes he's "Leaving the Best till Last".
To date SD's flagship replication piece was the Aliens hero M41-A Pulserifle, either in original or HCG adapted format although some would say perhaps the From Russia with Love Attache case or Golden Gun was at the top of SD's replica tree? This is the second of SD's Judge Dredd Lawgiver 2 movie replicas spanning 17 years and is easily a joint first place with the Aliens M41-A Pulserifle in quality and features.
Where do you start with this amazing replica? well it is based on a production used live/blank fire gun which was refurbished & decommissioned (made safe) post production to be gifted to a senior Cinergi Pictures executive who never received it due to the movie not being a Box Office smash. One of three known examples left in existence, the other two being owned by myself and the Pietro Beretta Museum in Italy who own Judge Rico's Lawgiver 2 casing.
The replica is a hybrid of the live/blank fire gun and the SPFX "Double Whammy" Lawgiver 2 which Mr Stallone utilised on screen meaning it possesses all of the features of both Lawgiver 2 pistols with the addition of a sound chip which samples sound effects & phrases from the movie which were added in post production back in 1995. Oh yeah and if that’s not enough for you? It is airsoft based so it also fires with a full gas blowback slide as fast as you can pull the trigger while its doing all the above. Just load a magazine, pull back the slide and off you go, LEDs light as on the SPFX prop from cocked gun to ready to fire to firing to rounds spent with Grenade, Armour piercing, Double Whammy, Flare & Rapid Fire settings…."I AM DA LAW!" Each setting fires 5 rounds with a different sound effect & a blue led flash inside the barrel. Each setting after "Lethal Rounds Exhausted" can be reset by inserting the magazine & cocking the slide and off you go again. For those who do not want to start a block war the features also operate on dry fire or until the batteries are spent which will take a considerable amount of time if you can put it down for more than 5 minutes. I did not have this much fun firing the original on the range or when I first discovered...you know!
It has just one fault which I pointed out to SD during its exhaustive research & development & that is it has been fitted with the Double Whammy lense where all the screen utilised live fire Beretta 92 FS based guns did not but as SD went to the trouble & expense of sourcing original units as fitted to the SPFX & stunt Dredd Lawgivers I'll let him off…this time.
The final image shows the replica with Stallone's live fire original, yes the SD replica really is that good.
