Ghostbusters (1984), PKE Meter
replica movie prop
Invented by Dr. Egon Spengler, a PKE meter is indispensable for detecting and tracking the PsychoKinetic Energy emitted by ghosts and other ectoplasmic entities. PKE meters have sensor wings that open and an audio tone that increases in direct proportion to the strength of the energy signature.
Compared to the recently released licensed replica from Mattel, this custom-made replica has a more accurate shape (fiberglass shell cast from an Iona shoe polisher) and the wings are powered by true microservos, resulting in more screen accurate continuous full range motion. Ping sound intensity and wing light cycling also increase automatically in direct proportion to the degree of wing extension, unlike the licensed piece. However, this particular custom prop is less accurate in other ways, and its fit and finish don't compare favorably with the Mattel collector's toy.
