Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), Miniature R2-D2 from Y-Wing Model

This miniature R2-D2 was created for the production of the original Star Wars film, at the ILM facility in Van Nuys. It measures just over 1" in diameter, and is made from a brown casting resin. R2 miniatures such as these were used to dress X-Wing and Y-Wing models in the film. This particular piece can be matched to a production photo of a Y-Wing. An interesting note- when the Y-Wings were photographed for the film, no R2 units were placed in them, so they can be seen with empty slots in the film!
